Jobs in the Future
Some trends show that there will be around 28,000 more jobs in 2017 than there are now in Coventry and Warwickshire. However, these trends do not fully reflect the impact of the economic downturn and recession which is currently not known.
The general employment trends are that there will be fewer jobs where people make things and more jobs where people provide services for others.
As well as new jobs the area also needs trained workers to replace some of the people who retire, move to other areas of the country or change career. This means there are opportunities in all kinds of industries.
The trends predict that by 2017 a number of industries are likely to grow and create more jobs:
- Construction – around 2,000 new jobs.
- Distribution – around 5,000 new jobs
- Hotels & Catering – around 2,000 new jobs
- Transport & Telecommunications – around 1,000 new jobs.
- Banking & Insurance – around 1,000 new jobs.
- Business Services – around 17,000 new jobs.
- Health and Social Work - around 6,000 new jobs.
- Education - around 6,000 new jobs.
But bear in mind that the above figures do not take into account the impact of the recession, so nothing is certain at the moment.
