The Facts

Employment in the Society, Health and Development sectors accounts for around 15% of the entire UK workforce, so it is one of the largest sectors in the UK.

One of the largest employers is the National Health Service (NHS) which employs around 2 million people in the UK.

Around 275,000 people in the West Midlands work in the Health & Social sector.

There are also lots of other employers, jobs and careers. Employers include: education departments, councils, schools, nurseries, care homes & youth offending services. In fact these organisations are all key employers in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

The number of people employed in the Society Health and Development sector is growing and there will be more jobs available in the future. The demand is for qualified people with up-to-date skills and evidence shows skills and qualifications lead to better paid jobs.

Coventry and Warwickshire is attracting a lot of new business, especially in the healthcare and medical technology industry. This will lead to lots of new, and different, jobs in the future.

In the future it looks like there will be more jobs in childcare and caring for the elderly.
